Building & Construction
Regulations relating to environmental impact of building and construction industries are changing fast. Construction of steel and concrete buildings consumes more than four times more energy and produces many times more harmful carbon dioxide compared to renewable construction materials like wood. As the carbon dioxide balance for a wood construction product is negative, buildings made of wood can store up to 300.000 kg of carbon dioxide. This is quite huge amount for one building.
Wood products have been used for thousands of years in constructions for good reason. Most of the renewable materials and engineered products made of the same have great weight-strength ratios being strong and light in weight at the same time. Engineered wood products as well as light weight and corrosion resistant composite products are very useful materials to use in our future buildings and other constructions. Light weight of this kind of products does not only saves energy, but light weight leads to cost savings through lower installation costs, easier handling and lower fuel consumption also. All this reduces total costs and saves environment at the same time.
In a case of fire safety, the future is here already today!
Engineered wood products as well as plastic and composite panels can be nowadays made fire safe without harmful or environmentally hazardous chemicals, for example. In addition, the passive fire protection can be conducted in a way that all essential properties of selected materials can be preserved including strength, thermal insulation and environment relating issues. Not even the costs are limiting anymore.
For the most demanding applications, it is recommended to use 100% non-combustible Ceratol® products solely or as a surface layer, especially if reduced smoke level is required.
